Even if you don’t watch Wimbledon, or have any interest in the sport beyond knowing who Serena Williams is, it’s hard to deny the power of a good tennis-style miniskirt. Indeed, this summer, the pleated miniskirt has once again become a hot commodity. Cast your eyes across Broadway Market of an evening, or anywhere in the vicinity of Rita’s in Soho, or the Windrush line on a Saturday, and you’ll notice miniskirts of the variety that’ll give you flashbacks to the school canteen.
It makes sense that the pleated mini is returning to our wardrobes (it was a big hit last summer, too). Aside from the fact it’s the ideal item for a heatwave, and basically feels like wearing nothing at all, the uniform-style garment has barely left runways since Miu Miu’s viral mini became the skirt du jour of the fashion girls in 2022. Charli XCX’s Sweat tour wardrobe arguably catapulted the mini into the mainstream. And, more recently, the mini has appeared in the spring/summer 2026 collections of everyone from Isabel Marant to Dior.
