Becky Hill has broken her silence on being booed on stage at TRNSMT festival as she explained why she only played new music at the gig.

Fans furiously walking out of her set after she boycotted her huge hits and vowed to only play unreleased tracks at the event last Friday.

The singer, who appeared as the festival’s secret act in Glasgow, disappointed fans who waited in the rain for hours.

Becky is famed for massive club anthems including Powerless, My Heart Goes (La Di Da) and Crazy What Love Can Do.

But when she told fans she would not be playing any of her famous music, festivalgoers quickly walked off and booed the hitmaker.

Now in a new TikTok video posted on Wednesday Becky has said: ‘I wanted to bring a new and exclusive 30-minute set of brand new music to a festival. I thought it would be a great opportunity to play the new music I’ve been working so hard on.

‘I want to thank the people working at the festival for giving me that stage and the crowds of people who you probably didn’t see online who stayed and danced with me right until the very end.

‘I spoke on stage about how difficult it is to transition to a new single and new music and new albums. I’m not a jukebox, I’m an artist and tickets to TRNSMT weren’t sold based on my name being part of the lineup.

‘I wanted to do something new and artistically driven. I don’t often get the chance to do that. But trust me when my name is on the poster I will always sing the songs people know and love.

‘I feel grateful to have them in my catalogue but in order to have a long career I need to have new music.’

At the festival Becky declared on stage: ‘I’m going to play you nothing but brand-new music.

‘I’ve got to a point that’s in every artist’s life where we have to let go of the tunes you lot know me for, and introduce you lot to a brand new f*****g era.’

As she watched her fans leave, Becky hit back: ‘It’s alright you lot – plenty of other artists to see here’.

Becky announced her third studio album REBECCA will be released September 25.

The new project follows her 2024 album Believe Me Now? and is preceded by the fiery lead single More! More! More! and the track Hands On Me.

Fans wrote: ‘Sorry but a festival slot is not the time to do a set full of new songs only’,

‘Point of a festival is to play your biggest songs not new stuff’, ‘I love becky hill but I would of been fuming, no disconnect or afterglow’,

‘people never paid a fortune for tickets to hear her pushing brand new music never heard before’,

‘Trickle in a new song here or there but a whole set of new songs at a festival is just plain dumb. That’s what your tours are for.’
