Whether it’s the World Cup, the Euros, AFCON or Copa América, international football tournaments never fail to inspire a sense of camaraderie and friendly rivalry. In a city as diverse as London, you’d be hard pressed to find a neighbourhood that isn’t a mosaic of dozens of nationalities rooting for different teams in the same room. And where better to watch the matches than… together?

Since 2012, east London football collective Romance FC has been building and creating opportunities for women and non-binary players on and off the pitch. For last night’s England versus Ghana match, the group took over Stoke Newington hotspot Bar Doña for a watch party. Although the game – which ended in a nil-nil draw – was ultimately “lacklustre” and dubbed a “reality check” for the Three Lions, the Black Stars remained steadfast in their defence, denying England a victory. Nevertheless, England is still at the top of Group L, and looking confident to make it to the tournament’s round of 32.

Anyway… back to the fashion. Photographer Leslie Lau was on the ground at Bar Doña to capture the looks.
