GOSSIP99 : Victoria Beckham Has Returned To Her WAG Uniform Just In Time For The World Cup

Over the past fortnight, much of the fashion content uploaded to Instagram has revolved around a specific set of photographs taken during the 2006 World Cup in Baden-Baden. You likely know the ones: baker-boy-capped, waistcoat-clad wives and girlfriends Cheryl Cole, Abbey Clancy and Colleen Rooney clustered around their queen, Victoria Beckham, in the terraces, who was typically dwarfed beneath a bouncy blowout and face-swamping sunglasses, wearing the WAG uniform of a strappy England vest and white denim shorts.

It’s perhaps fitting, then, that 20 years later, as the 2026 World Cup kicks into gear, Beckham has returned to some of those same wardrobe staples. This weekend, the designer was photographed alongside husband David, sons Cruz and Romeo, and their respective girlfriends Jackie Apostel and Kim Turnbull at a Father’s Day lunch in west London, wearing a linen camisole, ankle-skimming, slim-cut white jeans and criss-cross sandals. That Turnbull had arrived in her own version of the look – baggier jeans, higher heels – suggests the formula still holds appeal for a new generation. (Nicola Peltz-Beckham remains a fan.)

Of course, VB is as synonymous with white denim as she is with Birkin bags, little black dresses and Rolls-Royces, most recently wearing a pair while shopping at the Bottega Veneta flagship on Bond Street back in April. And I mean, where else? The entire point of wearing white jeans is to semaphore a sense of leisure and luxury; they are a garment that quite literally exposes any signs of manual labour or grime. It’s a very “even a dog gets better treatment than this!” item of clothing, which was, as legend has it, something Beckham once said when a chartered jet failed to arrive on time during her stay in Baden-Baden. Which is to say: you can take a girl out of the terraces, but you can’t take the terraces out of the girl.
