Actor-comic Craig Shoemaker went back and forth with users on social media after he was accused of ‘rage baiting’ after shedding light on the residuals he receives from his role in the $172 million hit Scream 2.

The 61-year-old entertainer in a post on Instagram Tuesday showed off a series of residuals he earned from the film – totalling $34.09.

‘In 1997 I was cast in the role of the film professor in the sequel of the original Scream movie, Scream 2, where I lead a conversation in class about film sequels,’ said the Philadelphia native.

Shoemaker added, ‘The residuals keep rolling in, baby! What should I buy with my 34 bucks?’

The comic didn’t appear to take the issue too seriously when challenged in the comment thread over his intent with the post.

‘So you had a bit part in one sequel of a multi-movie franchise a quarter-century ago,’ one user said. ‘Not sure if [you’re] rage baiting or legit bitching.’

Shoemaker replied, ‘How about none of the above, and the rage inside of you is the only baiting? Lol.’

Another commenter said of the check, ‘Better than nothing.. Would a better negotiating change that ? Cause you were just a day player.’

Shoemaker clarified, ‘It’s said with humor, and nothing else. If you don’t get it, then move on.’

One user pointed out to the comic how he wasn’t actually going to pocket the full sum.

‘Now now now….dont get crazy….thats $34 before taxes taken out. Soooo $25 bucks?’ the user said.

Shoemaker said in response, ‘I didn’t think about that. I’m down to a hotdog and a lemonade now.’

One commenter noted the general inequities of the residuals system, pointing to a set of actors who made a lucrative deal around the same timeframe.

‘I mean actors complaining about residuals when the cast of Friends is still making 20 million a year is wild to me,’ the user said.

The film, a sequel to the 1996 hit Scream, starred Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jerry O’Connell, Omar Epps, Heather Graham and Liev Schreiber.

According to Box Office Mojo, Scream 2, which was released in December of 1997 took in a total of $172,363,301, coming from $101,363,301 in domestic revenues and $71,000,000 in international sales.

Campbell, 52, departed the hit horror franchise in June of 2022, issuing a statement indicating that a deal could not be reached for her to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 6.

‘Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,’ Campbell said. ‘As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream.

‘I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you.’

She concluded, ‘You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.’
