David Beckham returned to the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Monday for day one of the Championships, bringing his mother Sandra as his guest for a day at the All England Club.

The former footballer, who had flown back to the UK after watching England’s World Cup match in New Jersey over the weekend, looked sharp in a grey suit as he took his VIP seats alongside food icon Mary Berry and former tennis player Debbie Jevans. Actor Mark Rylance, presenter Alexander Armstrong, and singer Katherine Jenkins were also among those seated nearby.

Beckham’s invitation to the Royal Box did not extend to his son Romeo and Romeo’s girlfriend Kim Turnbull, who were seen arriving separately and watching from standard seating. Romeo opted for a brown suit paired with a white T-shirt, while Turnbull wore a white dress as the pair enjoyed the opening-day atmosphere.

Elsewhere, Wimbledon’s first day drew a wave of celebrity appearances. Tess Daly led the fashion stakes in a lace gown while continuing to wear her wedding and engagement rings following news of her separation from Vernon Kay. The couple announced last month that they had mutually decided to end their 23-year marriage.

Amanda Holden arrived in a bold pinstripe two-piece, while Ashley Roberts wore a white mini dress with button detailing. Maura Higgins turned heads in a tennis-inspired look featuring sling-back heels decorated with tennis balls, echoing the “method dressing” trend seen in fashion circles.

Other attendees included Katherine Jenkins in white, Pixie Lott in a thigh-skimming mini dress, Ashley James in a pink slip dress layered with a white blazer, and Rachel Stevens in a relaxed, beach-inspired outfit.

Niall Horan and his girlfriend Amelia Woolley also attended, while Ronan and Storm Keating coordinated in cream and white ensembles. Isla Fisher shared pre-event snapshots on social media ahead of her arrival.

The famous Wimbledon queue also drew attention, with around 10,000 people reportedly gathering early in the morning. Many hopeful fans queued overnight, although some were disappointed after Emma Raducanu withdrew due to injury, reshaping opening-day expectations.

On court, defending champions and top seeds including Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka, and Novak Djokovic began their campaigns as the tournament got underway at SW19.
