The Princess of Wales has demonstrated her determination once again, completing the National Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend—one of the most demanding hiking challenges in the UK.
The challenge involves climbing the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), and Wales (Snowdon) within a 24-hour window. On average, only around 40% of participants manage to complete it in the required time, placing the Princess among a select group to achieve the feat.
This milestone also marks a royal first, as she becomes the first member of the Royal Family to complete the challenge.
Now 18 months in remission following her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, the Princess said the journey was not only a physical test but also a personal reflection on life beyond illness. She took part to raise awareness of the broader impact serious health conditions can have and to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which focuses on improving holistic cancer care.
After completing the challenge, she shared a photograph of herself at the summit of Ben Nevis, dressed in hiking gear, alongside a message reflecting on the emotional and psychological impact of cancer.
She described how the disease affects not only the body but also mental and emotional wellbeing, and how recovery requires support beyond medical treatment alone. The Princess also highlighted the importance of organisations like The Royal Marsden, praising their care and expertise in supporting patients through and beyond treatment.
