Woman Ghosted by Boyfriend After Two Years Living Together in Esher

When Rianna was 26, she was living with her then-boyfriend of two years in Esher, a suburban town about 14 miles from London. His mother often encouraged them to buy a home together instead of “wasting money” on rent, but Rianna didn’t feel ready to take that step. That hesitation later proved significant.

In December 2021, her boyfriend told her he was going out to buy Christmas gifts and would return the next day. He never came back. Days passed, then weeks, and he was gone for good—leaving behind only the dog he had recently surprised her with.

“At first I genuinely thought something terrible must have happened,” Rianna recalls. Like many people in her situation, she initially feared the worst. But when she tried contacting him through social media, she discovered she had been blocked. He was alive and well—he had simply chosen to disappear. “Nobody expects to be ghosted by someone they live with, especially when all of their clothes, personal belongings, family photos, passport and certificates are still in the house,” she says.

Rianna is not alone in this experience. Tafori, 42, also found herself trying to reach a boyfriend of two years who had stopped responding entirely. When she went to his home, he looked out of the window but refused to let her in. She stood outside in the rain before eventually leaving, still without answers.

Eva, 33, went through a similar situation after a year-long relationship that began with strong chemistry. Over time, communication became inconsistent, and she felt she was being slowly pushed away until contact stopped altogether. No explanation was ever given, leaving her to question what went wrong.

The experiences have had lasting emotional effects. Eva describes developing trust issues and anxiety in future relationships, worrying she might be “too much” or “not enough.” She became hesitant to express herself, constantly second-guessing her behavior.

While sudden disappearances are often associated with short-term dating, more women are reporting being ghosted by long-term partners in the modern age of constant digital connection. Social media, read receipts, and online activity make the silence even more confusing, as there is often visible proof that the person is still active elsewhere.

In Rianna’s case, the aftermath was also practically difficult. She was left to deal with shared bills and financial accounts, which proved complicated without communication from her partner. Banks and service providers struggled to process the situation, as there was no clear category for a partner simply vanishing without explanation.
