Gossip99.Co.Uk Amperity hit with layoffs as AI changes the shape of the customer data startup and how it operates

Seattle-based customer data startup Amperity carried out layoffs this week, the company confirmed to GeekWire, saying the decision is part of a broader transformation driven by its increasing use of artificial intelligence.

The company did not disclose the number of employees affected, only stating that “a number of talented people are leaving.” Amperity currently employs more than 200 people globally across offices in Seattle, New York, the U.K., Australia, and Argentina.

“Amperity is transforming how it operates as a company, building AI into how we work across the organization,” a spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “That shift changes where we’re investing and the shape of the team we need going forward.”

The layoffs come just two weeks after Amperity announced leadership changes, with co-founders Derek Slager and Kabir Shahani returning as co-CEOs. This transition replaced former Salesforce executive Tony Alika Owens, who had joined as CEO in 2024 in what the company described as a planned “mutual transition.” At the same time, longtime CFO Amy Kelleran Pelly also expanded her responsibilities, becoming president while continuing in her CFO role.

Slager and Shahani previously said that the rise of AI represents a significant opportunity for the company, a theme echoed in this week’s statement regarding the workforce changes.

“These decisions are about building a stronger Amperity for our customers. That’s where our focus is, and that’s what this next chapter is about,” the company added.

Founded in 2016, Amperity is one of Seattle’s better-known enterprise software startups, originally built to help large organizations unify and manage customer data.
