The Chase star Anne Hegerty has revealed a chilling encounter with an overzealous fan that she likened to ‘Baby Reindeer’.
Netflix hit Baby Reindeer told the story of aspiring comedian Donny Dunn, played by Richard Gadd, who works as a bartender in a London pub and is relentlessly stalked by a woman named Martha (Jessica Gunning) who derails his life.
Describing a creepily similar situation, Anne recalled meeting a fan in 2012 just as The Chase was becoming popular.
She shared: ‘There was a woman who I was being friendly with and got her wires crossed and the next thing I knew she packed up her home in London and moved to Manchester to live three streets away.
‘Nobody knew who we were at first, I was trying to be nice. But people can overstep, especially if you’re not used to having to set boundaries.’

Thankfully, Anne said she was able to gradually fend off the fan but admitted it had made her realise she ‘has to be careful with people who I befriend.’
Anne added to The Sun: ‘It was similar to Baby Reindeer, but not as bad. I am still Facebook friends with the woman.’
While people may feel like they know a lot about the much-loved quizzer from seeing her on The Chase, Anne doesn’t like to disclose too much about her private life.
Such is the case that last year rumours were sparked that she had a secret husband.
Yet Anne cleared it up during an appearance on Loose Women, when Christine Lampard pressed her on the claims.
Christine asked: ‘Anne – according to a recent Wikipedia page entry, it’s confirmed that you were indeed married to an unknown man. Who was this mystery husband?’
Anne explained: ‘I have no idea. Somebody vandalized my Wikipedia page and claimed that I was married to somebody called Jake Hester.
‘I have no idea if he even exists, I’ve certainly never met him. My brother didn’t help when he messaged me and said, “I’ve got to meet this guy!”‘
When quizzed further about her relationship status, the Governess confirmed she is happily single. ‘I’m fine, I’m absolutely fine,’ she told the panel.
The conversation then turned to the world of reality dating shows, with Christine asking whether she would ever consider signing up for Celebs Go Dating. But Anne revealed the idea doesn’t appeal to her.
‘I don’t really think so,’ she said. ‘I’m really quite introverted, really I need a lot of downtime and a lot of alone time.’
