You can’t say the Beckham brood don’t keep themselves busy: from developing skincare lines to launching hot sauces and writing albums, they do it all. And now, the middle Beckham boy, Romeo Beckham – who until recently has mostly been seen modelling for the likes of Balenciaga, Willy Chavarria and Burberry – is making his acting debut. Fans of Challengers and/or Heated Rivalry will be pleased to note that Forty Love, the film in which the 23-year-old is co-starring, is a queer tennis romance directed by renowned fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti. Read on for everything we know about Forty Love so far.
What is Forty Love about?
According to Variety, the story revolves around a tennis superstar, Sacha Gallo, who has been relentlessly training with his father to win a major trophy in Paris. But the arrival of a charismatic up-and-comer and potential rival – played by Beckham – throws a spanner into the works, forcing Sacha to question everything he thought he knew about ambition, and himself. “For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature – love,” the synopsis reads. “A force as exhilarating as it is destabilising – and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court.”
“There is a rare tenderness, melancholy and strength in his images,” producer Hugo Selignac said of Carlotti’s work in a statement to Variety. Of the film itself, he describes it as a “sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story” about the “demands of high-level sport, and everything that lies beneath the surface… led by outstanding performances”.
Who is in the Forty Love cast?
Alongside Beckham, the cast includes Paul Kircher as Gallo, as well as French actors Guillaume Canet and Benjamin Voisin. The film’s score is by 070 Shake and Johan Lenox.
Does Forty Love have a release date?
The film will be released later this year, 25 November, in France – with more info on UK and worldwide release dates to come.
