Over the weekend, Penélope Cruz took her bob to new, much shorter lengths. The work of hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos, the shoulder-grazing cut has been dubbed the “boyfriend bob”.
Cruz’s first foray into bob territory was her collarbone-skimming “clavi-cut” for Chanel’s spring 2026 couture show. Since then, she’s continued to experiment with shorter, blonder variations, seen at the premiere of The Bride! and, most recently, at the Cannes Film Festival. (Her sunkissed Cannes colour was done by Matt Rez and assisted by K.Naza.)
Giannetos shared her latest chop on Instagram (done with help from Kelly Godinez), explaining that he wanted to keep Cruz’s hair “effortless [and] relaxed” – just like her outfit, a Chanel tweed jacket and a white T-shirt. Makeup artist Ariel Tejada similarly kept the glam soft, with a subtle smoky eye and a monochromatic pink blush and lip.
As Cruz prepares for the release of her latest film, The Invite (directed by Olivia Wilde), we’re excited to see how her cut and colour will evolve. (Who knows? Maybe she’ll take inspiration from her character and go bleach-blonde.)
