Thanks largely to Daniel Craig, spy thrillers are traditionally associated with Savile Row tailoring, but Charlie’s Angels similarly reminds us that, when it comes to espionage, the outfit can be an essential part of the job. And while respect must be paid to the bell-bottomed, Farrah Fawcett fashion of the original 1970s Charlie’s Angels – and I occasionally blast the soundtrack from the 2019 reboot – it’s the camp joy of the 2000 version I can’t get enough of. Starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu (an unbeatable trio), the second stab at the franchise proved you can take down the bad guys in stilettos, skinny jeans and a going out top.

Diaz delivers a bubbly fever dream of asymmetric crop tops that makes me want to take a pair of scissors to every T-shirt I own while blasting Destiny’s Child. Should you need a break from the hip-huggers and halter necks, Drew Barrymore offers bejewelled denim, Chloé-esque crochet, and tinted shades galore. The kind of look that, 26(!) years on, still has the women of London in a chokehold. As for Lucy Liu, a fashion force in her own right (who could forget her legendary Sex and the City cameo?), her dominatrix-inflected leather pencil skirt ensembles would not look out of place in one of Sarah Burton’s Givenchy collections.
