Geena Davis has said she feels ‘really glad’ she had children in her late forties as she reflected on ageing and her turbulent love life in a new interview.

The Thelma & Louise actress, 70, welcomed her daughter Alizeh, now 24, when she was 46, and twin sons Kian and Kaais, 22, when she was 48, with her former partner Reza Jarrahy, who she split from in 2017.

Geena said becoming a mother in her forties gave her a certain sort of confidence as she had gained ‘strength’ and a new outlook on life by playing ‘really powerful women.

‘I’m really glad I had children later in life, because by the time I had them I’d changed a lot. I had a different prospective on things. I was a bada*s on screen way before in real life, but I’d been transformed by playing these really powerful women. These brave, strong people rubbed off on me. I can’t wait to see what the next decade will bring’, she told The Times

Geena added she ‘values privacy over everything’ after she spoke in her memoir, Dying Of Politeness, of her shock at being asked if her children were born ‘in vitro or natural’.

While motherhood began in her forties, the screen star said she saw sexism and ageism creep in as she described only being offered roles playing generic wives.

She commented: ‘I only made one movie that entire decade.’

Geena celebrated her milestone 70th birthday in January, but said she feels like she is 35. The actress turned 35 the year Thelma & Louise was released.

She said: ‘I’m relaxed about that stuff, you look older but inside you’re still the same person you always were.’

Elsewhere in the interview, the actress spoke about her chequered love life and said she isn’t dating ‘at the moment’ as she is ‘too self conscious’ to try celebrity dating app, Raya.

Prior to her relationship with Geena’s relationship with her children’s father Reza, Geena was married to Richard Emmolo from 1981 to 1984, Jeff Goldblum from 1987 to 1991 and Renny Harlin from 1993 to 1998.

Geena said she ‘drifted apart’ from her first husband, but expressed her regret at not giving her marriage to Jeff ‘more time’.

She said their split was self-instigated, but looking back she was ‘too hasty’.

The actress said her split from Finnish director Renny was ‘painful’ after he ‘betrayed me in the worst way possible’.

As for craniofacial surgeon Reza, Geena called him a ‘fantastic father’ to their children.
