BJ Novak has made rare comments about Mindy Kaling‘s daughter.

It has long been rumored that Novak is the father of Kaling’s three kids but she has never revealed the identity of the father.

The 46-year-old actor brought up her daughter, Katherine ‘Kit’ Swati, eight, in a new interview with The Wall Street Journal. 

‘Her eight-year-old daughter recently said she wished they lived at my house. When I asked why, she said, “It’s like a little house in the country,”‘ said Novak, who is Katherine’s godfather.

‘I live in a Midcentury house in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of L.A. I wanted one with a view but not up a creepy road with coyotes and Charles Manson acolytes,’ Novak joked.

He purchased the property in 2011 and has not renovated it much, he added.

Novak and Kaling are still ‘best friends,’ he said. Seen at the Men’s Finals of the 2025 US Open Tennis Championship in Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York in September

He also shared that Kaling is his best friend and they speak every day. 

Novak is also godfather to Kaling’s son Spencer, five. Kaling also has another daughter, Anne, two.

The actress has said in the past that he is an ‘important and integral’ part of her family. 

The kids even have a nickname for him: Uncle Fofo. 

At her 2025 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony Novak called her an ‘incredible mother of three.’   

Novak said, ‘Mindy respects and understands [fame] in a very intuitive way because in addition to being a brilliant and wildly successful showrunner, an incredible mother of three, a deep and caring daughter and friend and mentor to so many.

‘You’d be on the walk of talent if they had one,’ he added.

‘You’d be on the walk of friendship,’ the actor added.

‘You’d be on the walk of compassionate parenthood, but let’s face it, all of these would be terrible field trips, so here you are instead, very deservedly, a person who means so much to so many on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.’ 

In 2024, Kaling talked to People about the joys of parenting.

While at the Tory Burch New York Fashion Week event she said that her eldest child is starting to understand that she is a celebrity.

‘You know, I think as of now only my oldest would be able to appreciate it,’ said Kaling.

But her boy is not into it: ‘My son is more into, like, a trucks vibe.’
